We are Annette and Michael – a travel-loving couple from Germany, fulfilling a long-held dream:
after our professional careers, we finally have the freedom to explore the world at our own pace.
Through our travel blog Ferne Entdecken (“Discovering the Distance”), we invite you to join us on independent adventures far from the tourist crowds. We share real stories, personal experiences, and practical travel tips to inspire you to create your own unique journey.
What You’ll Find on Our Blog
- Independent Travel Inspiration – routes, planning advice, and insights for road trips and outdoor travel
- Authentic Travel Stories – honest impressions, local encounters, and off-the-beaten-path discoveries
- Wanderlust Ideas – suggestions for self-drive tours, hikes, and special places to stay
Our First Blog Destination: Namibia 2025
While we’ve traveled extensively over the years, our journey through Namibia in May and June 2025 will be the first we document in this blog.
We’ll share what we see and learn – from red dunes and endless horizons to close wildlife encounters – along with helpful tips for your own Namibia self-drive adventure.
In time, we’ll also look back and publish stories and recommendations from past travels across Europe and beyond.
Let’s Travel Differently – Together
We’re excited to start this new chapter of our lives – and even more so to share it with you.
Maybe our stories will spark your own wanderlust – or give you the courage to follow your own travel dreams.
Warmly,
Annette & Michael
Thanks for the blog. Hopefully I am travelling there on a group tour easter 2026 from Australia if fuel shortages allow trip to happen. Our first stop will be the Kalahari Red Dunes where you stayed last stop. You did not mention toilet availability along the way, was it an issue. I am unsure of weather but layers and preparing for cold nights seems to be the message. Thanks again marie
